Implants

One of the most significant developments in modern dental medicine is the application of dental implants and this has led to them becoming one of the most popular dental procedures of today.

Missing teeth will have a great influence on your oral health as well as your appearance, self-confidence and mouth function. Additionally, when you are missing teeth, other areas of your oral health also suffer as a consequence, including a reduction in jawbone density, this can cause gum problems and your teeth on either of the space can move, become crooked and difficult to clean.

Using surgical grade titanium, receiving an implant is usually a two-appointment procedure and for your first appointment, one of our dental team will refer you to recommended implant specialist.

The procedure to place your implant will involve of a small incision in your gum-line and the implant gently guided into its precise position as determined through x-rays and oral examinations. This procedure is performed while you are under local anaesthetic. The implant is left for between three to six months, allowing it to bond naturally with your jawbone. An implant is a substitute for a missing tooth root and becomes the permanent structure to which a crown or bridge can be secured. After you receive your implant, an appointment is scheduled with one of our dentists who will attach your replacement crown.

It is just as important to care for your implant as for your natural teeth by brushing twice daily with a soft bristled toothbrush and flossing once a day. Even though your implant is titanium and replacement teeth high quality porcelain, your surrounding teeth and gum tissues are still vulnerable to periodontal disease.

Ongoing six monthly oral exams and professional cleaning by our hygienists to maintain your dental health, will ensure your new implant and natural teeth are kept in perfect condition for many years.
