Dentures are still one of the most widely used methods to replace missing teeth and some patients prefer dentures to implants or bridges. Correctly fitted dentures should be comfortable, secure and pain free.
When selecting dentures it is important they are right for your personal situation, our dentists can advise you on selecting your dentures. There are various types of dentures, partial for replacing only a few teeth and full, used for replacing an entire upper or lower arch.
Mini dental implants have become progressively more popular for denture stabilisation. Removable, uncomfortable and sometimes painful dentures may no longer be necessary. In a similar procedure to a single tooth implant, MDI's consist of a ball and socket arrangement to secure an entire upper or lower denture arch, allowing patients to enjoy the freedom that comes with having comfortable and stable dentures.
To maintain total oral health, our hygienists can demonstrate how to keep your dentures clean and your gums healthy. Remove and brush your denture daily with a specially designed brush for cleaning dentures, use a denture cleanser as opposed to harsh, abrasive cleansers, including abrasive toothpastes so you do not scratch the surface of your denture. If you wear a partial denture be sure you remove it prior to brushing your natural teeth. When you are not wearing your denture, such as at night, soak it in a cleanser solution or in water.
It is important to continue having regular checkups with Tweed Smilecare so we can monitor your gum tissues for signs of change. When teeth are missing your gum-line and facial bone structure can change, this means your dentures will need to be periodically adjusted to ensure they remain in perfect alignment with your gums.
