When damage sustained by teeth is excessive, such as breakage or a severely decayed tooth which is beyond simple repair, or if you are missing one or more teeth, Tweed Smilecare can utilise porcelain or porcelain over metal crowns and bridges to restore your smile to its full appearance and function.
We specialise in these procedures and are renowned for the quality of our restorations and the fantastic results we have achieved for our patients.
Many of our patients travel from all over the region to see us for their treatment and are amazed at the differences we can make in a single appointment. Crown and bridge treatments are used for long-lasting corrections of major dental problems. It is not unusual for these treatments to last more than 15 years.
A crown covers a single tooth in its entirety and mirrors the shape, size and colour of your surrounding and opposing teeth. Crowns are utilised to restore strength and function to a cracked tooth, a tooth that has a deep cavity; or undergone root canal therapy, they are also attached to natural teeth on either side of a space to support a bridge. Crowns may be made from porcelain or porcelain over metal. They are custom-made and fitted to your personal bite, match the size and length of your natural teeth and by using our in-surgery CEREC technology; our team can complete your procedure in a single visit.
Following careful preparation involving the reshaping of your natural tooth, a detailed computer image is made from which your replacement crown is sculpted with precision by our CEREC machine. Your crown is placed and adjusted for comfort before being permanently secured with dental bonding cement and polished for a natural look.
Dental bridges are a very important component for maintaining optimal oral health. When you are missing one or more teeth, replacing them as soon as possible is vital for reasons other than just the appearance of your smile.
When teeth are missing, it will have a significant influence on your remaining teeth. Adjacent teeth can encroach on the vacant space causing them to become tilted and crooked, this in turn will affect their function and can often result in problems difficult to rectify when left untreated.
A dental bridge will prevent the movement of teeth on either side of the space and preserve the integrity of your smile and oral health.
In a similar procedure to receiving a crown, a bridge also requires meticulous preparation with the reshaping of your natural teeth on either side of the space to which crowns supporting the bridge will be secured. A detailed impression mould is made so that we can have a new bridge made at our dental laboratory a temporary bridge may be worn during this period; this will enable you to retain a full smile while you are waiting for your finished bridge.
A check for fit and any required adjustments for comfort are made before bonding your new bridge into place.
It is imperative to keep your natural teeth and gums healthy and strong as the longevity of your bridge depends on the teeth to which your supporting crowns are secured. Although your crowns and bridge is fabricated from high-grade porcelain, your natural teeth and gums are still susceptible to gum disease.
Maintaining a regular oral hygiene routine of brushing twice a day and flossing daily helps prevent tooth decay and gum disease. Scheduling six monthly appointments with one of our highly qualified hygienists for check-ups and advice on effective brushing and flossing techniques will ensure your new smile lasts for many years.
